firmus energy drops prices for natural gas customers

firmus energy customers have received welcome news with a price drop on the cost of natural gas.

The gas supplier will be reducing its tariffs for customers in the Ten Towns Network and Greater Belfast Network area by 15.6% from 01st April 2024.

Announcing this reduction, firmus energy’s Chief Executive Officer, Niall Martindale said:

“firmus energy Supply is delighted to be announcing another reduction in our tariffs….since December 2022, consecutive reductions have decreased our tariffs by over 46%, representing an average household saving of £1,094.50 per year.

What does this mean for firmus customers?

This latest reduction comes on the back of previous price decreases from firmus energy during 2023 so consumers will be relieved to see costs coming down after record highs.

In total almost 112,000 domestic and small business firmus energy gas customers will benefit from this latest reduction. firmus energy has around 68,000 customers in the Ten Towns network and 44,000 customers in the Greater Belfast network.

For customers in the Ten Towns, this means the annual gas bill of a typical household with a credit meter will reduce by about £237 per year and customers with a prepayment gas meter (PAYG) will see their typical costs reduce by around £208 per year.

For customers in the Greater Belfast Network, this means the annual gas bill of a typical household with a credit meter will reduce by about £237 per year and customers with a prepayment gas meter (PAYG) will see their typical costs reduce by around £234 per year.

I’m a firmus energy customer…what network am I in?

With the difference in price drops by area, you may be wondering which area you fall into.

Northern Ireland is broken into three separate gas networks – these are the Greater Belfast area, the Ten Towns area and the West network area. Each is distinct and will have different suppliers, cost and tariff options.

The Greater Belfast area covers: south, west, east and north Belfast; Carrickfergus; Newtownabbey; Duncrue and Harbour; Lisburn; Carryduff; Castlereagh; Newtownards; Larne; and North Down.

The Ten Towns area includes Derry/Londonderry, Limavady, Coleraine (including Portstewart and Bushmills), Ballymoney, Ballymena (Broughshane), Antrim (including Ballyclare and Templepatrick), Craigavon (including Portadown and Lurgan), Banbridge, Newry (Warrenpoint), Armagh (Tandragee) and more than 25 other towns and villages in the surrounding area.
